Between the 8th of May and the 8th of June, 2014, at the Dignitas Gallery on 21, Anton Pann street, Bucharest art lovers can enjoy a one-of-a-kind encounter with the latest artwork created by the plastic artist Ioan Iacob, one of the best-known contemporary Romanian painters in the Germanic area. Many of the pieces have never been shown anywhere else before. Visitors will be treated to a unique experience during the art show, which consists of leafing through his personal notebooks, a sui generis creative laboratory. The painter will also hold two masterclasses for talented youths studying at famous institutions of plastic arts in the Capital.
On the 8th of May, the Dignitas Foundation inaugurated the Dignitas Gallery, situated in its Bucharest headquarters on 21, Anton Pann Street, by organizing the varnishing day of Ioan Iacob’s exhibition, titled “Oil, Water, Colored Powders.” The show bowed before the artist himself and a select audience from the Capital City. Ioan Iacob put on many successful exhibitions in Germany, and saw his work entering great private collections as early on as at the time of his debut.
Art critic Aurelia Mocanu, a fine connoisseur of the painter’s oeuvre and evolution, delivered a speech that emphasized the importance of the event for the Capital’s cultural landscape, as well as the meaning of the exhibits, which reflect the particularities of this developmental stage the artist currently finds himself in – the color, the technique, the subject-matter. Familiar objects from everyday life are reinterpreted, standing out as vehicles for the confessions that the artist makes in full view, about his complex experiences.
Addressing the audience, Ioan Iacob shared with his guests a few of the secrets lying at the heart of his process of assimilating mundane experiences, which are then reborn into a new reality, that of his artwork.
Throughout the month of May, the Dignitas Foundation will be organizing special events at the Gallery, as a way of marking the international days dedicated to the celebration of museums and galleries. Students from the “Nicolae Tonitza” Plastic Arts High School and the National University of Arts in Bucharest will attend masterclasses held by Ioan Iacob, on the 17th and the 19th of May, at the Foundation’s headquarters on 21, Anton Pann Street. Those who wish to register for the classes can do so by calling: 0748881337.
